Hunger starts in the mind

How about we try to regain control over our own hunger?

Think about this: nowadays there is a coffee shop or fast food restaurant on every corner. There are vending machines in every building. We are bombarded daily with images of and references to food. Food is linked to celebrations, birthdays, football games, breakups…. It’s like we get hungry pretty much because there’s a conditioned response and not really because our bodies need nourishment…

How can we fight this?Let me give you a hint: time-restricted eating (TRE).

TRE is also known as intermittent fasting and it could be the solution we are looking for. This is the way it goes: by randomly skipping meals and varying the intervals at which we eat, we can break our habit of eating three – or even more- times a day. We will no longer have a conditioned response of hunger every three to five hours. We will no longer become hungry simply because it’s noon or we’re at the movies.

Instead, we will get hungry because we are hungry. We will allow our bodies to tell us when it needs nourishment rather than eating by the clock.

If you have always wanted to try this but don’t know how to start, you can join me in my next 3 week challenge: The 3 Week Time-Restricted Eating Challenge!
